Spiroglo, 1998

HS Projects were appointed by developers Lynton to work with the architect Craig Downie, of award winning practice Studio Downie, to identify a shortlist of artists from which Zoe Chamberlain was commissioned to design a temporary light based sculpture within a spectacular double height ground floor office space on Pall Mall.  HS Projects managed the selection, design, fabrication and installation for this commission.

It was important to identify an artist who could design a contemporary work of art to make an impact without dominating the space.  Chelsea Art School graduate Zoe Chamberlain won the commission with her temporary site-specific work, “Spiroglo”.  Chamberlain incorporated fibre optics to the outside edge of the spiral shape making the work visibly glow when seen through the unusual double height windows at night.  Chamberlain utilised lightweight materials including technical fabric, such as used by racing yachts, to wrap the colourful and robust lightweight sculpture.

“Spiroglo” was installed for a period of six months until the building was tenanted.
